Five of the six bills regulating a woman's reproductive rights in the Florida Legislature this session mentioned here are being sponsored in the Senate by Erin "Holy" Grall. Jonathan Martin has introduced the sixth bill, which appears to be modeled after one in Texas that encourages citizens to inform on women or men who violate state laws on abortion and pays them a bounty for informing. Shades of 1984!
I came here to say the same thing, but more like - what is her deal? The 6wk ban she got thru wasn't good enough. I don't know what all these procedures she's concerned about actually are, but am gonna oppose them anyway - because we don't want politicians in the exam room with us!
Erin is an attorney and a far-right Catholic whose career in the Legislature has been primarily about restricting a woman's reproductive rights. Fetal personhood is Grall's ultimate goal, which will forever end elective abortions in Florida. In short: a control freak on steroids.
In the safe invulnerable Supermajority in Tallahassee, the corporations are winning big time, apparently. Will Florida voters ever figure it out? We have a yapping commissioner in Sarasota who talks about how much of a "conservative" he is - he uses the word 4 times in a sentence if he can. He's all about helping big developers get their plans approved. Conservative used to mean something - now it means corporate power and money.
There is not hardly a single bill or piece of legislation that is “for the people.” It is all about the big boys getting everything they want to help continue lining their pockets.
This flows from the lunacy that infects those in a supermajority who feel invulnerable - politically and socially from any pushback. Florida has long suffered from its third-world status - a fiefdom of white billionaire developers to whom everyone bends since the advent of Rich the shit Scott in 2010.
It looks like most of it is boiling down to screw the little people.
