The lobbyist at the center is Eileen Stuart, a Managing Principal of the Florida office of the increasingly notorious Ballard Partners, and prior to that -- amongst her lengthy resume of revolving-door jobs in and around Tallahassee -- she served as Vice President, Government and Regulatory Affairs for Mosaic, another rent-seeker of the first magnitude.
Your comment about Slide finally brought this issue into focus for me -- I find the insurance bidness mostly opaque. Sticker shock!

I'd like to read your comments, if an opportunity presents itself, perhaps before special session number one takes place, about the increasing self-aggrandizement of the acting and would-be future AG. He seems to be proffering the same basic state nullification arguments as John Calhoun a century ago. And what's with all the pre-Civil War citations? I thought the Reconstruction amendments and various civil rights acts from 1866 until 1965 had cemented the principle that national supremacy was the primary principle of US law.
I know the Legislature has to be your main priority, but surely you know someone -- a Constitutional lawyer, perhaps -- who can spin this out in response to questions from you? Also, how is Uthmeier able to keep the grand jury report sealed? This needs to be part of the election cycle in Nov. Thanks!
It's a great question and it's on my list of things I'd like to dig into a bit more substantively soon. But in the meantime, this is what the Herald reported a few weeks ago:
"Under state law, grand jury presentments are made public only after all persons named in the report have the chance to ask a judge to order the redaction of all or parts of it that they think are “improper and unlawful.” A judge decides, and parties to the case can then appeal the decision — a process that can take months or longer."
So much for grand juries indicting ham sandwiches -- or baloney and cheese in this case. Justice deloayed is justice denied if Jimbo can stonewall the presentment.
And how about this unprompted legal opinion by Jimbo during "Holy Week" on the 1A as reported by Gray Rohrer: "Moreover, Uthmeier’s legal opinion argues the First Amendment’s clause preventing the establishment of a particular religion only applies to the federal government, and the states are free to impose their own state religion."????

This newsletter filled me with dread, and I feel stick to my stomach. I feel hopeless about the possibility of changing this system. I was in high school in the early 60s. In a Civics class, the teacher explained how lobbying worked -- it's not just funneling money; it's also writing the legislation for the politicians and their staff. There's just too much for them to know. So they rely on the 'experts' (lobbyists for certain companies or organizations) to 'draft' the legislation that the politician will submit to the legislature.
This information was very personal to me. I went home that day and accosted my father -- YOU ARE A LOBBYIST!! He kept saying "public relations", but I clearly understood that Lockheed Aircraft stood to obtain a very large order for fighter planes for the Navy. And my father, after 3 or 4 years of work, received a 'bonus' for his work -- a bonus which matched his annual salary!!! And, of course, the bonus was paid out in such a way that he was not slammed with a high income tax bill.
This system of lobbying is built into the system. It's not just the money. It's also the input of writing the bill to be submitted to the legislature.
Read our bumper stickers??? The (small, spineless hypocrites) people who vote for the gop are more than happy to buy into the so called "security" cameras because of all this "crime". BS.
Look at the propaganda they are pushing through the news - "you don't need an education - go get a trade's job because it 'pays' better" - in other words the rich kids are tired of being beat out for a few professional jobs because if one thing is true - they never, ever did like competition.
I'd like to see a mass deportation of billionaires who refuse to pay taxes and the Epstein list client list..
