Register now: Seeking Rents + Welcome to Florida, live and in-person
Registration is open for our first-ever Seeking Rents live events.
This is Seeking Rents, a newsletter and podcast devoted to producing original journalism — and lifting up the work of others — about Florida politics, with an emphasis on the ways that big businesses and other special interests influence public policy in the state. Seeking Rents is produced by veteran investigative journalist Jason Garcia, and it is free to all. But please consider a voluntary paid subscription, if you can afford one, to help support our work. And check out our video channel, too.
Registration is now open for our first-ever live events!
As we recently announced, Seeking Rents is joining forces with Welcome to Florida, the always-illuminating weekly show co-hosted by legendary environmental journalist Craig Pittman and radio personality Chadd Charland — who is also, by the way, running for a state House seat in northeast Florida as an independent candidate without any party affiliation.
The twin meet-and-greets — one in St. Petersburg, the other in Winter Park — will include moderated question-and-answer sessions in which Craig, Chadd and I will discuss our careers, the state of journalism in Florida, and some of the biggest issues facing the state right now.
St. Pete is first up: We’ll be at Tombolo Books on Thursday evening, May 7, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. There will be a $5 charge at the door to cover staffing costs.
Sign up for our St. Pete event here.

Winter Park will follow two days later: We’ll be at Austin’s Coffee on Saturday afternoon, May 9, from 3 pm to 5 pm. This one is free.
Sign up for our Winter Park event here.

Registration isn’t mandatory. But it will help us get a better headcount ahead of time, which is important since capacity is limited at both venues.
So we’d love it if you could sign up ahead of time. But feel free to show up even if you don’t.
Either way, we hope to see you soon!

Best wishes for productive events. I don't live near Central Florida, or else I'd attend one of them. You and Craig Pittman - what a team! Wow.
I didn’t realize until I listened to today’s episode that we should RSVP. Now the St. Pete event is sold out. Should I show up anyway? Couldn’t we go on the patio outside?
