This makes me sick and I worked in Development Services and previous iterations for 24 years. Impact fees are not burdensome or restrictive to properties damage by storms. No fees on repair or rebuild. Impact fees are on NEW buildings that did not previously exist. Homes that are being repaired or rebuilt won't have wetland impacts only NEW proposed developments. Communities cannot even update their Comp Plans which is required by statutes every 5 years. DeSantis is a sell out in hopes to get funding to go beyond Governor of Florida. He's termed out as governor. Maybe looking at 2028 (got soundly beat in 2024)
Until the Florida voters return Democrats to the statehouse and flip the Governor, this crap will continue to happen without fail. It's the only way. Currently there is NO checks and balances and anyone who says this current house has woken up is delusional in their beliefs.
Senate Bill 180 was intended to support hurricane recovery, but its broad scope is now being used to challenge local measures that manage growth and protect vulnerable areas. By taking away local control to set stronger rules that keep people safe from hurricanes, flooding, wildfires, and other hazards, it risks weakening community resilience. Maintaining local authority is essential for tailoring solutions to community needs and safeguarding public health and safety. Hopefully, the Legislature will revisit the law to ensure it strengthens — rather than weakens — resilience.
Have you seen or heard about the new FL hedge fund scam whereby they are “selling” their homes, but ONLY to non-cash ‘buyers’, who have $25,000 down pmt, but aren’t able to qualify for traditional mortgages? But it doesn’t involve the deed. Apparently it’s a buy-in to an LLC. Can’t do anything with the property for minimum 5 years, among other things.

It’s D’Satan, so my vote is intentional screwing over Floridians to help his buddies.
