Re the property insurance issue, a fun topic to look into would be the My Safe Florida Homes program, which I’m sure you’re familiar with - it’s the legislature’s vague wave in the direction of sky high insurance premiums by allocating $176 million for grants to homeowners to make improvements that may entitle them to premium discounts. The state claims to have exhausted all of the $176 million already - not clear exactly how - and now it’s accepting applications for the first phase of the next tranche, which is a home inspection. According to the home inspector who just left my house, there are a whole of people still applying. This makes sense: I did some research, and there are about 2 million single family homes built before 1970 in Florida (and the program just expanded to townhouses). The MSFH program matches up to $10,000 per home. The legislature approved part of the $176 million for costs other than grants to homeowners - so let’s say there’s $150 million available for grants - not exactly enough to make the barest dent on improvements to the housing stock. And as Florida Politics just reported, not all the homeowners who’ve made improvements are even getting premium discounts. The program seems like a bonanza for the home inspection industry and doesn’t promise much help for homeowner - and it still would be interesting to find out where the first $176 million went.
I guess we shouldn’t be surprised. The state whose governor proclaimed in 2020 that Florida had the most secure election ever has consistently encouraged lawmakers to make it harder to vote, to intimidate voters, to disenfranchise voters, etc., solving problems that weren’t problems. And he’s not the only one, it’s widespread across the nation. Voters, please vote.
Jason, you may have followed what happened in Brevard County recently when county commissioners( all Repubs) voted to defund the Supervisor of Elections for the exact amount budgeted for mailing sample ballots to all and for return postage for mail-in ballots. The reaction was quick and fierce…and they ended up reversing the vote. Every action counts !! 📲✍️
Also thanks for the history. Bill Posey is my Rep so it’s good to know .He was also the sponsor of the infamous Birther Bill and now is part of the far-right Freedom Caucus …whichever way the crazy wind blows. He needs to go !!
In keeping with party fashion, State Sen. Blaise Ingoglia of Spring Hill, a former chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, filed the measure Friday evening as lawmakers rushed to introduce their ideas before Tuesday’s start of the annual legislative session. From the party of bad ideas that will, yes, take us back ages, we have the Republicans. By the pretzel logic of Blaise Ingoglia, he would have you take your Duke energy payment and drive to their office for submission. While you're at it, he'd want you to take your Spectrum bill payment and drop it off on the other end of town. If you still mail your CC payments, then you'll be out of luck as Blaise wants you to drive to Des Moines Iowa to drop off your Macy's payment. After all, the mail is for cheaters, according to Blaise. I also expect a line of Gurney's at the polling places as hospital patients would be out of luck. Okay all of you patients....into the Hospital bus. What does Blaise intend to do with the vast numbers of Military who rely solely on mail delivery of ballots? Is Blaise going to disrespect them? If you live in Florida, call this Ass-wipe up and tell him to leave your voting methods alone!! District office 352-666-5707.

I can not believe I live in this state!
They are not republicans. They are servants to the oligarchy and christo-fascist culture warriors.
