Florida politics are and have been so scummy with only 1 party in power for the last 25 years. It seems a tiny handful of the same names in circulations happen to be the ones controlling all the strings. One tentacle of this insurance nightmare that went UNCHECKED for years was a scheme by roofers, lawyers and the associated industries to obtain "Assignment of Benefits" from the homeowner. This scheme went like this. Homeowner was promised a new roof by roving roofing companies even to fix a 10'x10' square area on the roof because it was "damaged". Roofing companies convinced a homeowner that they could get them an entire roof, some greater than 1,500 square feet. Homeowner says sure, where do I sign. Roofs in the newer Florida are just too big and some would cost $15,000 to $25,000. Homeowner then signs away the "Assignment of Benefits" to the roofing company. This went on for Y-E-A-R-S, unchecked by any Florida legislative member. Only this past session did they address this scheme and make it unlawful. Damage done however.

A handful of people control it all in Florida. Only until retirees, the general public and EVERY DEMOCRAT realize the gravity of the harmful party, will the wholesale change occur. If it causes you enormous financial pain and there is one party to pin the blame on, get your asses off the couch, check your voting status and vote in every election so that we replace the Red for the BLUE!!

I lived in NY for 53 years and never remember a governor injecting himself/herself in local decisions as much as RON does. I guess Republicans like being told what to do and when to do it..

If we are forced to buy insurance, then we should be able to write it off our taxes.
